49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk carted off in game vs. Chiefs after knee injury

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk had to be carted to the locker room during the 49ers’ Week 7 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The wideout had made his second catch of the game in the second quarter – a 15-yard reception – when Kansas City cornerback Trent McDuffie started to tackle him. Soon after, fellow defensive back Chamarri Conner came in to help finish the tackle with a hit to the lower body.

During the play, Conner’s contact appeared to bend Aiyuk’s right knee in the wrong direction. The receiver stayed down for a few extra moments and was attended to by medical personnel.

Brandon Aiyuk injury update

Aiyuk took a low hit to his right leg from Conner, a Chiefs safety, after making a catch in the second quarter.

The Fox broadcast of the 49ers vs. Chiefs showed Aiyuk limping on the sideline as he made his way to the blue medical tent following the hit, unable to put much weight on the injured leg. Moments later, Aiyuk emerged from the tent and had to be carted to the locker room.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Aiyuk pointed to his right knee while on the cart. The 49ers ruled their wide receiver out of the game within 20 minutes of him suffering the injury.

After the game, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that Aiyuk may have torn his ACL.

Who is Brandon Aiyuk’s backup on 49ers’ depth chart?

Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel are the top receivers on the 49ers’ depth chart. Both were ruled out of the game against the Chiefs after Aiyuk suffered his injury and Samuel exited with an illness.

Behind them on the depth chart is Jauan Jennings, who is out in Week 7 as he battles a hip injury sustained during San Francisco’s Week 6 game.

After the top three receivers on the 49ers’ depth chart, the next three men up are Chris Conley, Jacob Cowing, and rookie first-rounder Ricky Pearsall, who made his NFL debut Sunday after he was out recovering from a gunshot wound he suffered in late August.

Brandon Aiyuk stats

Before the injury, Aiyuk had two catches for 23 yards against the Chiefs in the 49ers’ Week 7 game.

He entered Week 7 with 23 catches for 351 yards and no touchdowns on the season.
