Lions will unveil 8-foot bronze statue of Barry Sanders next season
The Detroit Lions announced they will unveil an 8-foot tall bronze statue of Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders next season at Ford Field.
During halftime of the Lions’ game against the Miami Dolphins, team special assistant Chris Spielman made the announcement as several players stood near him at midfield during their annual alumni game at Ford Field.
Sanders, who is 5-feet-8, thanked the crowd for their support and said his teammates were already making jokes about the size of the statue.
Sanders played his entire career (1989-1998) with the Lions after being drafted third overall in the 1989 draft. He finished his career with 109 career touchdowns (99 rushing) on 18,190 yards from scrimmage (15,269 rushing)
